That gap has been wider than usual, and you've been filling it with whatever's nearest. Not compulsively. Just methodically. A piece of fruit that wasn't really the point. A biscuit that wasn't either. A cup of something hot that you made because the alternative was sitting still and noticing how mid-week Wednesday has started to feel lately.
